CLEANTHES

Cleanthes was born in Assos(today,in Canakkale,Turkey).His family was poor.In early life,he was a boxer and sprinter.He went to Athens because of war in his country and he met with Zenon.He became head of the stoic school after the death of Zeno of cyprus.He wrote about fourthy works,of which only fragments survive,most important being his hymn Zeus.'Cleanthes was an important figure in the development of stoicism and stamped his personality on the physical speculation of the school and by materialism,gave a unity to the stoic system'.(vikipedia).Hi died in Athens.
